No, it is very easy and definitely a job you can do yourself.
By following the steps below, you will have it up and running in no time at all. Gather the required items before starting and then off we go.
I am presuming you are replacing an old dishwasher and have the pipe work in place. First you will have to remove your old dishwasher (if you have not already done so).
Removing the old appliance
1. Turn off the water supply at the valve. You will usually find this underneath the sink. If you cannot find the valve, or the existing valve is faulty, you will have to turn off the water at the mains.
2. Turn on the tap at the sink to ensure that the water has been shut off correctly.
3. Turn off the power to the dishwasher before trying to move it or unhooking anything.
4. Using a screwdriver, remove the screws at the top of the dishwasher, these are attaching it to the counter top.
5. Carefully pull out the bottom cover of the dishwasher.
6. Check again that you have turned off the power to the dishwasher.
Now we are going to disconnect the electrical feed (this is under the dishwasher, above the floor) water supply and drain hose.
Disconnecting the electrical feed
1. On the underneath of the dishwasher, you will find the electrical feed. There are wire nuts and a connector box, the wires will be attached to this. Undo the wire nuts, remove the wires from the terminal screws and move them out of the way. We will keep these for the installation of the new machine.
Disconnecting the water supply and drainage hose
2. Locate the water supply under the dishwasher washer and disconnect the supply line from the water inlet by removing the nut
3. Disconnect the drainage hose from the sink drain or in some cases the garbage disposal. This is easy to do as it is only held in place with a hose clamp. The clamp can be disposed of as a new one will be supplied with your dishwasher.
Removing the old dishwasher
1. Slide the old dishwasher out, have an old towel at hand for any water spillage.
2. Clean any spillage, dirt or grease from the space before fitting your new appliance.
Fitting the new dishwasher
1. Position the new dishwasher on its back. Connect the drain hose with the new hose clamp.
2. Attach the elbow for the water supply line, making sure the elbow is facing toward the back to fit into the supply line. Use layers of Teflon tape when connecting the elbow to ensure there are no leaks.
3. Position the dishwasher at the opening. As you ease it into the hole, push the drainage hose through the hole in the side of your cabinet (or to the back and under the sink). Ensure you do not kink the drainage hose.
4. Reconnect the electrics, ground wire to the green screw, white wire to white wire, and black wire to black wire. Use the wire nuts to secure them in place.
5. Connect the drainage hose where it came out of the old dishwasher.
6. Turn the water on and check for any leaks. If leaks occur, turn off the water, check your connections and test again. Only continue once you have resolved any leaks.
7. Level the dishwasher using the adjustable front legs.
8. Screw the dishwasher to the underside countertop.
9. Replace the front panel, turn on the power and your new dishwasher should be ready to use.
So, easy enough to do, won't take more than an hour or two and will save you money when compared to employing a plumber. A job well done!
