Having decided to replace your old tub, the first step is to choose from the many styles of baths available. Don't forget, if not reusing your old taps, you will have to purchase new ones as these rarely come with the bath.

Once you have chosen your new bath, removed the old one, you are then ready to install your new bath in a few easy steps.

Decide on the location

  1. Decide where you want to position your new bath. Place the new bath in position and adjust the feet so the bath is level and at the required height.

  2. Using a pencil, mark the wall to show the positioning of the taps and the waste outlet. Once these positions have been marked, you can remove the bath, giving yourself more space to work in.

Preparation

Pipes and waste

  1. If the bath is being located in a new position, you will have to extend the supply and waste pipes.

  2. Extend the pipes, bringing them near to the marked locations allowing space for positioning the new bath and making the connections.

  3. Assemble the taps and waste

  4. Following the manufacturer's instructions, assemble and fit the waste outlet on the bath.

  5. Assemble the overflow pipe. These can vary slightly but generally connect back to the waste outlet on the bath.

  6. Insert and fix the taps, once again, follow the manufacturer's instructions.

  7. If the taps are supplied with tail pipes, shape and fit these. Alternatively, cut lengths of copper pipe to make your own tails. Ensure they are long enough to connect to the supply pipes and gently shape to fit. Fit these to the taps using the supplied connectors.

Connecting the water supplies

  1. Carefully move the bath into position and check the pipe work is aligned correctly before securing the bath into place.

  2. Using compression fittings connect the tails supply pipes.

  3. Connecting the waste

  4. Connect the trap to the waste outlet and waste pipe.

  5. Check water supply and drainage

  6. Turn on taps to check the water supply, also check the waste for any leaks. Then fill the bath so as to reach the overflow, again check for any leaks.

Finally, you can attach a side panel if required. As you can see, this is an easy enough job to tackle so long as you have the correct tools and fittings. Take your time and before you know it, you will be enjoying a long relaxing soak in your new tub!
