Houses get dirty fast and a fast and efficient response is needed. To overcome the dirt that is collecting on the floor, it is helpful to know how to vacuum. Here we will talk about keeping your floors clean and livable. The things you will need are a vacuum cleaner and attachments.
1) First check what style of vacuum you have. It needs to have adjustable brushes. This is to match the floor you are using it on. Check the vacuum for a bag that is not full. Make sure those brushes are operational also. Do not use the brushes on a wood floor. On the stairs, use the crevice tools and the beater attachment.
2) Before starting, pick up toys and anything else that is in the way of your vacuum job.
3) Vacuum those areas that get the most traffic once per week at the very least. You will probably need to do it more often. Do not let the dirt grind into the carpet or rugs. This will shorten the life of your carpets and rugs, similar to sandpaper grinding down paint.
4) Let your vacuum pattern overlap. That is, make a pass and overlap the next pass fifty per cent over that pass. Continue with this movement of the vacuum and you are actually vacuuming your carpet twice in one job.
5) Hold the cord of the vacuum in your hand that is not handling the machine. This keeps you from running over the cord.
6) For vacuuming stairs, attach the tube to the machine and remove the end attachment. Use this to get into the crevices of the stairs. When you are done with the crevices, put the wide attachment on the tube. Use it on the horizontal and then on the vertical parts of the stairs.
7) Vacuum wood floors with the same system as you use on carpet. Overlap your passes ( strokes ) by fifty per cent. This makes sure you do not miss any spots.
Removing all the things that get in the way of your vacuum job is an important step to getting all areas clean.
