Does your home feel cramped ? If you have exhausted all your alternatives to making more space in your house here are a few more ideas for you.
1) Use wood flooring. The grain of the flooring gives the illusion of more more room. Point the grain of the wood flooring to be parallel with the longest wall.
2) Use the toy box effect. If you have toys scattered through your home, make a seat that doubles as a toy box. Throw the toys in there and make your floor look bigger.
3) Make your dining room table into a storage area. Make shelves or enclosed spaces underneath the dining table and save more space.
4) Make better use of vertical space. Start stacking things in logical ways. Appliances can be stacked. Put things that are least used in the top of the stack. Use tall cupboards for your dishes and pans and put a curtain over all of it to make it look neater.
5) If you have stairs, this is the perfect place to put things. Use the area under the stairs for the home office. You will not have to use the dining room table anymore if you use this tip. You can install a door over the storage under the stairs and have a lot more room for other things.
6) Make your floors a lighter color. This is a seldom used way to make your home look bigger. If you use carpets, use lighter shades and do not use patterns. Use less rugs. Rugs do not make a room look bigger. Avoid them if you can.
7) Use mirrors in the right places. Mirrors expand the interior of rooms and give the appearance of space. Use them to good advantage.
8) Rearrange your furniture. You may have tried this already, but one more creative move of the furniture may give you the look you need to make it appear that you have more space.
9) Paint your ceiling white. This may seem obvious to some, but if you have not tried it yet it is a good tip.
