You are about seventy per cent water. Therefore the purity of the water you drink determines much of your health. Use a whole house water filter to clean up your water supply. Here are some things you will need; saw, hacksaw, screws, plywood, marker, file, screwdriver, stud finder, and house filter kit.

1) Shut off the water supply to the whole house. There is one valve that accomplishes this task. Finding it may be the hardest part. Find a suitable place to install your whole house filter. You should choose a place that allows you easy access to it later. Take a look at the installation manual for the clearances you will need around the filter.

2) Use the template that comes with the filter kit to mark the pipes for later installation. Find the studs you will use to attach and stabilize the system to the wall. Mark them with the carpenter's pencil or other marker. Attach plywood to these studs and make sure the plywood is in front of the marks you make earlier on the water pipe. Use strong screws to attach the plywood to the studs in the wall.

3) Use a pipe cutter and cut the water pipe at the two marks you made earlier with the template. You can use a hacksaw to do this or a pipe cutter. Smooth out the edges of the cut pipe with sandpaper or a file. Clean the ends of the pipes and prepare them for the next step. Attach the filter to the plywood on the wall.

4) Attach the compression fittings of the filter system to the filter and to the cut pipe. Do not use a tool to tighten up the connections, just use your hand to tighten them.

5) Turn the water back on and check your work for leaks. Let the water run for a good bit until you are sure the filter has had a chance to be filled up once and emptied once. The installation instructions will give you a time to let the water run for the first time. Once you are sure the water has been freed of loose particles in the water filter, start using your water again. You are done.
