Track lights are great for showing off lighting and adding depth to the room and are rather inexpensive and easy to install. There is a wide range of track lighting for you to choose from for your home like, flexible ribbon tracks, track lights with pendulums, and jointed sectionals.
It is easy to install track lighting, especially if it is to replace existing ceiling fixtures. All you need are screwdrivers, drill and drill bits, voltage tester, wire strippers, wire nuts, ladder, electrical tape, toggle bolts, wood screws, track, bulbs, lighting heads, cover plate, and track connectors. However, if this is a new installation without any wires, you need to have a new circuit to the track light location which is preferably done by a licensed electrician.
All electrical work starts by turning the power off at the breaker panel. Recheck using a voltage tester and then remove the existing light fixture. If necessary, use a ladder. Ensure that the wires are in good condition; if oxidized or the insulation is hard and brittle; remove the bad parts using wire strippers to produce ¾” insulation removed from the wires.
Connect the track light to the light point using the wire connector. Connect the white, grounding, and black wires and then wrap electrical tape around the wire meeting wire nuts. The track connector and cover plate has to be secured to the junction box. Then slide the track length to the connector making it even and straight. Mark holes with a pencil and drill holes here.
Then secure the track using toggle bolts and snap the connector cover over the connector. On installing the light heads, fit the right light bulbs for the fixture and aim the head in the direction you want the light to shine. Switch on the light, and admire your handiwork!
