Your home needs to stay fashionable. Drapes can help you accomplish this goal. Here we will show you how to install drape curtains and make your windows look good. The tools you will need are a tape measure, curtain rods, screwdriver, screws, pins, and sewing machine.

1) Measure your windows with a tape measure, to to find out what length curtain rod and curtain material you will need.

2) Buy your preferred type of curtain rods and extra hardware to mount them. They should extend out further than the width of your windows. They should be strong enough to support the weight of your curtains and then some. Hopefully your curtain rods and the kit to install them will come with the right screws. If not, you will need to buy some.

3) Choose the fabric for the curtains. For this you will need three times the width of the window. Use the measurement you made earlier with the tape measure and then multiply this by three to get the correct length of fabric needed. If you are making your own curtains, put a hem on both ends of the fabric to prevent the fabric from unravelling.

4) Install the curtain fabric. Begin on the left side of the curtain rod and go around the rod with the fabric two times. Allow three feet of fabric to be hanging down from the curtain rod.

5) Move the fabric over the curtain rod one third of the way across the rod. Wrap this around the rod one time. Gather the loosely fitting fabric into sections to begin creating the look you want. Repeat this a few times to create the swags, gathering and collecting the fabric together.

6) Finish by wrapping two times on the opposite ( right ) end of the curtain rod like you did with the first side. Terminate the wrapping by leaving the same three feet of material as you did for the left side. Make sure they are both the same length, that is, both sides of the curtain should end up being the same length.

7) Proportion the fabric in the areas you have wrapped on the curtain rod. Continue to gather the folds together to create the look you want. When you like the look, use pins to pin up the curtains like you want. If you need to sew them in this pattern, now is the time to go ahead and do it.
